NC Catholics Caring for our Common Home

The Call

From Pope Leo, Pope Francis and the popes who preceded them to our local bishops, the Catholic Church has spoken directly about the importance of caring for God’s creation and about climate change and our urgent call to respond. The Popes remind Catholics that the virtue of prudence means we must take seriously the conclusions of the great majority of international scientists who warn that climate change is adversely impacting our planet and especially the poorest among us.

“There exists a certain reciprocity: as we care for creation, we realize that God, through creation, cares for us.”Pope Benedict XVI for the World Day of Peace entitled "If You Want to Cultivate Peace protect creation"

Laudate Deum (4 Oct 2023) Pope Francis released this Apostolic Exhortation Laudate Deum, ‘Praise God’, to “clarify and complete” what he started in 2015 with his Encyclical Letter Laudato si’ on how we care for our common home.

Message of Pope Leo XIV for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation (1 September 2025) The Pope’s message resonates with the spirit of the ongoing Jubilee Year, calling the faithful to embrace their role as "pilgrims of hope" and stewards of God's creation.
